Suntory World Whisky AO is a blend of whiskies from Japan, Scotland, Ireland, Canada and the United States, bottled at 43% ABV in a 70cl bottle. It draws on spirit from distilleries including Yamazaki, Hakushu, Ardmore, Glen Garioch, Cooley, Alberta and Jim Beam.
Ao means blue in Japanese, a reference to the oceans that link the five countries, and the five-sided bottle nods to their traditions.
The nose is fruity and creamy with pineapple, vanilla, honey and a little smoke. The palate brings sweet malt, caramel and cinnamon with delicate peat smoke, and the finish is lingering, with gentle smoke and toasted wood.
