Swiss Mountain Master Distiller 5 Year Old Tropenhaus Edition III (70cl, 59.6%)

A five-year-old Swiss single malt from Rugenbräu, bottled at 59.6% in a 70cl bottle as the Master Distiller Tropenhaus Edition III. It is a joint project between Rugenbräu AG and Tropenhaus Frutigen. In 2018 three casks of Swiss Mountain single malt were put to mature in the tropical garden of the Tropenhaus, where the humid air and a temperature of around 23°C speed up maturation. This whisky spent its five years in a refill port cask and was bottled in September 2023, with an outturn of 275 bottles. The nose is winey and floral with strong oak, pear and elderberry compote and caramelised ripe fruit. The palate is soft and full, with malt caramel and dark ripe fruit, and the finish is very long and dry with spice.
