Comtes de Champagne 2006 is Taittinger's prestige Blanc de Blancs, made from 100% Grand Cru Chardonnay and bottled at 12.5% in a 75cl bottle.
The grapes come from Grand Cru vineyards in the Côte des Blancs, in the villages of Avize, Chouilly, Cramant, Oger and Le Mesnil-sur-Oger. Only first-pressing juice is used, and about 5% of the base wines spend four months in new oak barrels. The wine then rests for roughly ten years in the house's chalk quarries beneath Reims.
The nose shows lemon confit, crushed chalk and a saline note, with grilled nuts and praline. The palate is fresh and full, with apricot, peach, grapefruit and anise. The finish is long, with liquorice root and a mineral echo.
