A 2023 Special Release single malt from Talisker, the Isle of Skye distillery, bottled at a cask strength of 59.7% ABV in a 70cl bottle. It was finished in a combination of Ruby, White and Tawny Port casks.
The nose is mellow and drying, with malt loaf, sultanas and dates giving way to sea air, sea salt and sand dunes, plus chalky mineral notes and a light hint of grape skins. A little peat smoke sits underneath and grows when water is added.
On the palate it is creamy, lightly sweet and fruity before turning salty, peppery and smoky. The finish is long and spicy, with Sichuan pepper.
