The Wild Explorador is a 2023 Special Release from Talisker, an Island single malt bottled at 59.7% ABV.
It was finished in a combination of Ruby, White and Tawny Port casks, a nod from the Malt Master to the Portuguese origins of the seafaring ships that inspired the release.
The nose offers malt loaf with sultanas and dates, then sea air, sea salt and sand dunes, with a little peat smoke. The palate is creamy, turning salty, peppery and smoky, and the finish is long and spicy, with a catch of chilli pepper.
