The Balvenie DoubleWood 12 Year Old is a Speyside single malt from Balvenie Distillery in Dufftown, bottled at 40% in a 70cl bottle. It is matured for at least twelve years in American oak ex-bourbon barrels and hogsheads, then moved to Spanish oak ex-Oloroso sherry casks for a further nine months. This double maturation was pioneered by Malt Master David Stewart. It is non-chill-filtered and of natural colour.
The nose has sweet fruit and Oloroso sherry with honey and vanilla. The palate is smooth and mellow, with nutty sweetness, gentle cinnamon and a light sherry influence. The finish is long and warm, with lingering sweetness and soft oak spice.
