A 10 year old Speyside single malt from The Balvenie, bottled at 40% ABV. Founder's Reserve joined the distillery's core range in the 1980s, first in a cognac-style bottle, and was discontinued around 2009.
It is a vatting of whisky matured for at least ten years in ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks.
The nose is lightly smoky, with burnt cake, caramel, heather and honey, turning grassy before fresh apple, gooseberry and peach appear. On the palate come honey and fruit jam, apricot and quince, then herbal tea, Christmas cake, liquorice and dried thyme and rosemary. The finish is medium long, honeyed and spicy.
