The Glenrothes Makers Cut

The Glenrothes Makers Cut is a single malt from the Glenrothes distillery, founded in 1879 with four investors and a loan from the Church of Scotland. The distillery was built to produce a cleaner, fresher spirit for blending. Glenrothes uses a mixture of wooden and steel washbacks and draws on a private spring on its own estate for every stage of production. Its malts are known for their complexity and often need time in the glass to open. The nose offers orange oil and blackberry jam with drying oak behind. The palate is juicy, with sherry, crunchy brown sugar, a touch of boozy red wine and macadamia nuts, followed by a sweet finish of chocolate and dried fruit.
