A 51 year old Macallan distilled in 1948 and matured in three Spanish oak sherry casks at the Easter Elchies Estate. It was bottled at cask strength, 46.6% ABV.
The release ran to 366 bottles, one for each day of 1948, a leap year. Each is hand numbered with its day, and this one carries 25th August. A signed certificate of guarantee is included.
It is described as quite different from the usual heavy sherried Macallan: clean and fruity, with phenolic notes and subtle smoke, and surprisingly youthful for its age.
