A single cask New Zealand single malt from The Oamaruvian, 18 years old and distilled in 2000. Cask #565 spent six years in American oak ex-bourbon, then twelve years in French oak ex-red wine barrels. It is bottled at cask strength, 57.8% ABV, in a 50cl bottle.
The colour is dark cherry wood. The nose has port-soaked raisins, dark cherries, cloves and stone fruits, with pecan praline, almonds and balsamic reduction glaze emerging with water and time. Dried cherries and strawberries, almonds, nutmeg and liquorice with anise shape the palate. The finish is slightly drying, moving between spice and sweetness towards a port-like close.
