The Singleton of Glen Ord 38 Year Old is a Highland single malt in a 70cl bottle, bottled at a cask strength of 49.6% and the first release in the Epicurean Odyssey Series.
Malt master Maureen Robinson had the whisky rest for twelve years in refill casks, then moved it to more active wood for a further 26 years: ex-bourbon casks, casks that previously held Pedro Ximénez and Oloroso, and new American oak. Whisky from eight casks makes up the 1,689 bottles.
The nose offers red apple, mango, pineapple and candied citrus, with almond oil, vanilla and sandalwood behind. The palate is full and creamy, with fudge and baked apple with cinnamon, turning gently drier and peppery. The finish is very long, sweet and warming, with a touch of ginger.
