Thomson – New Zealand Single Malt Whisky Manuka Smoke (70cl, 46%)

Manuka Smoke is a New Zealand single malt from Thomson, in which the barley is smoked over native manuka wood rather than peat. The barley is grown entirely in New Zealand. The spirit is distilled in copper pot stills and matured in bourbon casks, then bottled at 46% without chill-filtration or added colour. The smoke is spicy and woody, with caramel, cinnamon, clove and aromatic manuka oils. The nose brings caramel and dried fruit with hints of autumn leaves and dry bark, then pastry and a faint earthiness. The palate is silky, with red berries and spice. The medium finish carries black pepper, a touch of honey, and notes of mint and liquorice.
