Tobermory – 1973 42 Year Old (70cl, 47.7%)

This is a 42 year old single malt from Tobermory on the Isle of Mull, an official bottling from 2016 at 47.7% in a 70cl bottle. Only 650 bottles were released. It contains some of the first spirit made after the distillery reopened in 1972, and it is a long-aged sherried whisky with a rich texture. The nose is full of old oak and other woods, with humidor, wax polish, tobacco, pipes and cigars, roasted pecans and walnuts, and heavy toffee. The palate is oaky and spicy, with bay leaf, cloves, bitter orange marmalade and black pepper, moving towards liquorice. The finish is extremely long, tannic and spicy.
