WhistlePig 12 Year Old World Rye is a rye whiskey bottled at 43% in a 70cl bottle. WhistlePig was founded in 2007 with master distiller Dave Pickerell, and its ryes use a mash of close to 100 percent rye.
This one matured for over a decade in new American white oak, then was finished and blended from Madeira casks (63 percent), Sauternes casks (30 percent) and Port casks (7 percent).
The nose brings dates, raisins, honey, orange marmalade and baked apple pie. On the palate apricot and honey lead into peppery rye with plum, caramel and mint. The finish has candied fruit, oak, dark chocolate and buttered toffee.
