WhistlePig RoadStock is a straight rye finished on the road during a 6,000 mile journey in a mobile rickhouse, bottled at 43% (86 proof) in a 750ml bottle. It left the farm in Shoreham, Vermont, travelled to Chicago, west along Route 66 to Los Angeles and on to Paso Robles, then returned home.
Half the rye went into used Jordan Winery Bordeaux blend casks. The rest stayed in virgin oak, then moved at Firestone Walker into used Imperial Stout, Imperial Blonde Ale and Experimental Ale barrels. Blender Meghan Ireland married the finishes.
The nose has vanilla, dried fig, honey and raspberry jam. The palate shows brown sugar, mocha, stewed fruit and toasted cedar.
