The Boss Hog VIII LapuLapu's Pacific is the eighth edition of WhistlePig's annual Boss Hog series, a 17 year old straight rye bottled at 52.9% ABV (105.7 proof) in a 750ml bottle. It was hand bottled at the WhistlePig farm in Vermont in 2021 from Barrel No. 75, and is non-chill filtered.
The rye matured in new American oak, then received a double finish in Philippine rum barrels, first 7 year old casks and then 10 year old ones. The name honours the Filipino warrior LapuLapu and follows Boss Hog VII Magellan's Atlantic.
The tasting notes describe vanilla, underripe banana, lemon and molasses on the nose, then cinnamon, citrus zest and butterscotch. The finish carries leather, nutmeg and allspice into black pepper.
