WhistlePig 18 Year Double Malt 4th Edition is a straight rye whiskey from WhistlePig Farm in Shoreham, Vermont, bottled at 46% (92 proof). It was aged for 18 years in new American oak, then finished in Spanish Pedro Ximenez sherry casks.
The mash bill is 79% rye, 15% malted rye and 6% malted barley, which is what double malt refers to. The release ran to approximately 10,000 bottles and has a handmade Vermont glass topper.
The nose is sweet, with toasted almonds, caramel, vanilla, smoked maple, berries and nutmeg. The palate is spicy and honeyed, with dried fruit, dark chocolate and warm oak, and the finish is long and clean, with dried fruit, cocoa and soft honey.
