WhistlePig The Boss Hog VIII: LapuLapu's Pacific is the eighth edition of the Boss Hog series, a straight rye from WhistlePig Farm Distillery in Shoreham, Vermont. It is named after LapuLapu, the Filipino warrior chief who defeated Ferdinand Magellan in 1521, and is subtitled The One That Made It Around The World.
The rye is finished in casks chosen to reflect the Pacific voyage. It is bottled at barrel strength, 115.4 proof (57.7%), unfiltered and individually numbered.
The nose combines cinnamon, black pepper and dried fruit with coconut, vanilla and toasted wood. The palate has dark caramel, rye spice, dried tropical fruit and dark cherry. The finish is long and warming, with rye spice and dark fruit.
