Boss Hog VIII: Lapulapu's Pacific is a straight rye whiskey from WhistlePig Farm in Shoreham, Vermont. It is a single barrel, hand-bottled release at 52.9% ABV (105.7 proof), and it was released in 2021.
The rye is finished in rum casks from a single island in the Philippines. The name honours Lapulapu, the Filipino chieftain who defeated Ferdinand Magellan at the Battle of Mactan in 1521.
The nose combines rye spice and structure with tropical fruit and sugarcane sweetness from the rum casks. The palate is bold and complex, with rye spice alongside the fruit of the rum cask. The finish is long and warming, with tropical rum notes and rye spice.
