WhistlePig The Boss Hog IV The Black Prince is the fourth edition of the annual Boss Hog series from WhistlePig Farm in Shoreham, Vermont. It is a straight rye whiskey finished in Armagnac casks, the first American rye to be finished this way.
It is a single barrel whiskey, bottled at proof in a 75cl bottle, and it won Best In Show Whiskey at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition in 2017.
The nose combines dried fruit, prune and Gascon oak with bold rye spice. The palate shows caramel, vanilla, dried fruit and warm rye spice with a brandy richness, and the long finish carries the Armagnac cask alongside the spice.
