WhistlePig – The Boss Hog VI The Samurai Scientist Katakana Edition (75cl)

The Katakana Edition of WhistlePig's Boss Hog VI, a straight rye from Shoreham, Vermont, with Japanese katakana script on the bottle. It is a single barrel bottling at 120 to 122 proof, in a 75cl bottle. The rye was finished in Japanese Umeshu plum wine casks, made with the Kitaya brewery on Kyushu, and koji fermentation was introduced to the blend. Jokichi Takamine, who brought koji to American distilling, appears on the bottle. The nose is ripe plum, warm rye spice and delicate floral notes, with a subtle umami note. The palate pairs bold rye grain with plum and savoury depth. The finish is long, with warm spice, dried plum and Japanese oak.
