A 17-year-old straight rye from WhistlePig Farm in Shoreham, Vermont, and the seventh Boss Hog edition. Its name and idea come from Magellan's circumnavigation of the globe. It is a single barrel bottling at between 105.1 and 107.8 proof, in a 75cl bottle.
The rye matured in American oak, then met new Spanish oak staves from northern Spain, and was finished in South American teakwood.
The nose is cinnamon sugar, allspice, maple and toasted wood, with vanilla, roasted almonds and a little espresso. The palate has cloves, brandied cherries, baking spices, charred oak, sage and dark chocolate. The finish is long, with cinnamon, oak spice and gentle warmth.
