Wright & Brown Cask Strength Rye is a straight rye whiskey from Wright & Brown Distilling Company in Oakland, California, bottled at cask strength and never chill filtered. This is Batch 001, at 112.2 proof (56.1%) in a 750ml bottle. The mash is 70% rye and 30% malted barley with no corn, an homage to old Pennsylvania Monongahela rye. It is distilled in copper pots and aged for three years or more in new American white oak casks, medium char. Part of the rye comes from the Brown family's own farm in the Mattole Valley, Humboldt County. It is described as chewy, spicy and deep, with a floral, grassy character, earthy rye spice and a smooth sweetness under the heat.
