This Port Ellen is a 35-year-old Islay single malt Scotch whisky, bottled by Douglas Laing in its Xtra Old Particular range. It matured in a single sherry hogshead from March 1983 to March 2019 and was bottled straight from the cask. Only 128 bottles were produced. The nose is wonderfully smoky, with burnt brown sugar and cured meats. The palate is full of mocha and cocoa, barbecue smoke and stewed dark fruit. The finish carries on with rich spice, peat and molasses.
