Yamazakura Pure Malt is a Japanese malt whisky from Sasanokawa Shuzo, bottled at 48% in a 70cl bottle. Pure Malt means that no grain whisky is used in the vatting.
It combines malts matured in virgin oak, ex-bourbon casks and sherry casks, reportedly for over five years, along with a peated malt component at 50 ppm.
The nose is sweet caramel, green apple, banana and cherry crumble pie. The palate shows clear sherry notes with creamy vanilla and nuts, and a subtle peat arrives towards the finish.
