Zuidam – Millstone Peated Tawny Port Single Malt Special #28 (46%)

This is a peated single malt from Zuidam, bottled at 46% as Special #28 in the Millstone range. The wort is clear and ferments slowly for seven days, and distillation is slow, with the cut taken relatively early. The whisky then matured entirely in casks that previously held tawny port, which gave it its colour and lifted the fruit alongside the peat. The nose leads with balanced smoke, red fruit and a little citrus, the peat growing over time beside fresh lemon and lime. The palate brings orange marmalade and spice, and the finish is long and rich with gentle smoke.
