Aberargie – Golden Promise (70cl, 48.2%)

This is a single malt Scotch from Aberargie, part of its Expressions range, which looks at how individual barley varieties shape a whisky. Here the barley is Golden Promise alone, grown on the fields around the distillery. It matured in first-fill casks: 68% bourbon barrels and 32% sherry butts. It is bottled at 48.2% without added colouring and is not chill-filtered. The nose is buttery shortbread, stewed apples and brown sugar. The palate is round and full, with baked fruit, malty depth and baking spices, followed by a long, warming, spicy finish.
