This is an English rye whisky from Adnams' Copper House Distillery in Southwold, Suffolk, bottled non-chill filtered at 47% ABV (94 proof). The rye is grown at Reydon, a few miles away, on the farm of company chairman Jonathan Adnams.
The mashbill is 75% rye and 25% East Anglian malted barley. It is matured for a minimum of five years entirely in new medium toast French oak, rather than ex-bourbon barrels.
The nose is Christmas cake, candied fruit and spice, with marzipan, vanilla, chocolate and black pepper. The palate is drier, with spicy rye bread, raisin fudge, honey and hedgerow fruit. The finish is long, with pepper, ground coffee and honeyed sweetness.
