This is a cask-strength edition of Ardbeg Ten, the Islay single malt, in a 70cl bottle. Members of the Ardbeg Committee had asked for it for more than 20 years.
It was drawn from American oak bourbon barrels, hand-selected and filled with spirit at an unusually high strength, which gives a naturally elevated ABV.
The nose is smoky and spicy, with toffee, tar, creosote, coffee grounds and sea spray, and vanilla and lime beneath. The palate is mouth-filling and spicy, with sweetness like smoked cinnamon, then soot, peat moss and woodsmoke balanced by malt. The finish is mentholic and cooling, with eucalyptus.
