Ardbeg 12 Year Old Darkness is an Islay single malt aged for twelve years, including a finishing spell in Oloroso sherry casks. Only 258 bottles were produced of this 2022 release, in a 50cl bottle at 48.4% ABV.
The Darkness range puts its sherried qualities front and centre, here set alongside the heavily peated character of Ardbeg.
The nose combines dried fruit, rich smoke, coffee and juicy red apple sweetness. On the palate come red fruit, bonfire embers, honey-roasted nuts, marmalade and meaty malt, and the finish mixes smoke, sea and sherry for a good while.
