This is a 14 year old single malt from Ardbeg on Islay, distilled in 2008 and bottled from a single bourbon cask at 63.8% ABV in a 70cl bottle. It is the sixth release from Cut Your Wolf Loose, the independent Brighton whisky bar and shop, and the cask gave 274 bottles.
The cask-strength malt is savoury and aromatic, with salty, citrus-edged smoke and some sweetness from the refill cask, plus a surprising hint of liquorice.
On the nose, tasters describe pipe smoke, matchsticks and a mint. The finish is long, with rubbery notes and cracked pepper.
