Ardbeg 16 Year Old is a single cask Islay single malt, distilled in 2006 and matured in a second-fill Oloroso sherry butt, cask 2787. It was bottled for the Feis Ile festival in 2023, with 623 bottles in 70cl.
The release marks the Planet Ardbeg theme of the festival. Dr Bill Lumsden selected the cask, which had been part of a parcel intended for Ardbeg Uigeadail but was kept back to mature further as a single cask because of its sherry character.
The nose is rich and spicy, with cinnamon, ginger, clove, dates and figs. The palate is oily and peppery with molasses and Brazil nuts, and the finish is rich and slightly savoury.
