This is the Ardbeg Committee Exclusive 21 Year Old, an Islay single malt released in 2016 for members of the Ardbeg Committee. It was bottled at 46% without colouring or chill filtration, in a limited edition of 8268 bottles.
The whisky was distilled in the 1990s, when very little spirit was made at Ardbeg and workers came over from Laphroaig for a few weeks each year.
Tasting notes describe a nose of tarry smoke, Ardbeg ice cream and black pepper, with fennel or basil. The palate brings liquorice, marzipan and toasted rye bread, and the finish is long and gentle, with coal tar and aniseed.
