Ardbeg Anamorphic is a Committee Release from the Islay distillery, which the brand described as Ardbeg turned upside down and inside out. The cask heads were removed and scored deeply to expose more wood during an intense 'high mocha' toasting, intended to temper the briny character and bring out a chocolatey sweetness.
It is bottled non-chill-filtered at 48.2% ABV.
The nose is earthy, dusty and slightly biscuity, with restrained soot and tar alongside silky vanilla. The palate is peppery and warming, with chilli chocolate, bitter mocha, birch tar and smoked artichoke. The finish builds to rich smoke, with charcoal, bitter almond and molasses.
