Ardbeg – Corryvreckan (57.1%)

Ardbeg Corryvreckan is an Islay single malt bottled at 57.1% ABV and not chill-filtered. It takes its name from the famous whirlpool north of Islay, and it was named World's Best Single Malt at the 2010 World Whisky Awards. The nose is tarry rope, creosote and linseed oil with dark chocolate, blackcurrant, muscovado sugar, cherry and pine, then briny seaweed, smoked bacon, vanilla and clove. The palate is deep, peppery and chewy, with black tarry espresso, dark fruits, bitter almonds and star anise. The finish is very long, with black coffee, chocolate-covered cherries and warm pepper sauce.
