This is Ardbeg Drum, a limited edition released on Ardbeg Day at the 2019 Feis Ile. It is a peated Islay single malt at 46% ABV, made from ex-bourbon casks of no stated age that were then rested in ex-rum casks from the Americas.
The rum casks add bittersweet molasses, banana and chocolate to Ardbeg's tarry citrus character.
The nose is bonfire smoke and earthy pine with ripe banana, banana bread and pineapple, plus dark chocolate and candied ginger. The palate is spicy with pepper, clove, cinnamon and ginger, with liquorice and vanilla pod. The finish is roasted coffee beans, cinnamon and cocoa.
