This is the Committee Release of Ardbeg Kelpie, an Islay single malt released for Feis Ile in 2017. It was matured in casks made from virgin Black Sea oak and in bourbon casks, and is bottled at 51.7% ABV, higher than the 46% of the standard Kelpie. It comes in a 70cl bottle.
The nose is intense, with oily peat, dark chocolate, smoked fish, seaweed, black pepper and a sharp herbal note. Water brings creamy coffee, smoked fudge, pine resin and smoked coconut. The palate is peppery, with treacle toffee, Turkish coffee, smoky bacon and dark chocolate. The finish is very long, with clove, tar and rich toffee.
