This is Ardbeg Perpetuum, an Islay single malt released during Feis Ile 2015 for the distillery's 200th anniversary. Ardbeg was founded in 1815 by John McDougall, and Dr Bill Lumsden made this edition from young and old whiskies matured in bourbon and sherry casks.
It is full-bodied, with coastal peat, smoked meat and vanilla. The nose has sweet earthy peat, warm leather, mossy green notes, iodine and sea spray. The palate opens with a medicinal note of bandages and TCP, then ground coffee, lime and orange peel, charcoal and soft nutmeg. The finish is warming, with lime peel, slate and ash.
