This is an Ardmore from the 2008 vintage, a Highland single malt bottled by Berry Bros & Rudd at 57.2% in a 70cl bottle. It belongs to the Caroni Collection, Antipodes edition.
The whisky was matured in a cask that previously held Caroni, the Trinidad & Tobago rum. Ardmore used direct coal-fired stills until 2002, and its four wash stills and four spirit stills each hold 15,000 litres.
The nose moves from petrol and oily, salty peat to fresh pear and apple. The palate is fruity, with pineapple and Mirabelle plum, then peaty, with honey and herbal notes of thyme and sage. The finish is long, with barley sugar, chimney smoke and a lingering hint of tarmac.
