This is a nine-year-old single cask Highland single malt from Ardmore, bottled at 56.7% in a 70cl bottle. It was matured in a refill bourbon barrel and released by Mizunara for its 4th anniversary. Only 251 bottles were filled, and the label was designed by the Japanese artist Kenro Shinchi. Tamashii is Japanese for soul or spirit.
The nose combines gentle peat smoke, charcoal ash and earthy notes with vanilla, honey, citrus and banana. On the palate, vanilla sweetness gives way to brine, then peppery spice, cloves and a little dark chocolate. The finish is long, with smoke, spice and sweetness lingering together.
