This is Arran The Marsala Cask Finish, a single malt Scotch released in 2018 as a limited edition. The whisky spent the last months of its maturation in casks that held Marsala, the Sicilian wine, a finish the distillery has taken up with real enthusiasm. It is bottled at 50% ABV in a 70cl bottle.
On the nose there are mandarin peel, glazed apples and roasted almonds, with strong oak, spicy honey and a hint of gingerbread. The palate is very dry, with cloves and nutmeg, chocolatey hazelnut, bitter orange and grapefruit. The finish brings white pepper with dark cherries and blackberries.
