Bache-Gabrielsen BGW Chestnut Cask French Single Malt Whisky (43%)

This is a French single malt from Bache-Gabrielsen, made from French barley and bottled at 43% ABV. The whisky is first aged in oak casks that previously held Cognac, then refined in new chestnut casks and in older chestnut casks that formerly held Cognac. The nose has dried fruit, nuts, fresh chestnuts, leather and mature woody notes. Roasted chestnut, cashew and nutty sweetness run through the palate, with layered wood character. The finish is long and fresh, with yellow fruit, kumquat, clove, cumin and lingering chestnut.
