Ballechin 10 Year Old Heavily Peated (70cl, 46%)

Ballechin 10 is a heavily peated single malt from Edradour in Perthshire, matured for ten years and bottled at 46%. It is non-chill-filtered and has no added colouring. The whisky was matured in ex-bourbon and Oloroso sherry casks. Bourbon casks make up the larger share, and the sherry-matured whisky adds depth to the vatting. The barley malt is peated to at least 50 ppm, a figure that refers to the malt rather than the finished whisky. The nose combines herbs and grass with sweetish smoke. The palate pairs chocolate and oak with spicy, earthy smoke, and the finish recalls smouldering heather.
