Ballechin 10 Year Old Heavily Peated (20cl, 46%)

Ballechin 10 Year Old is the heavily peated single malt from Edradour, a Highland distillery, in a 20cl bottle at 46%. It is distilled, matured and bottled at Edradour, and is non-chill-filtered with no added colouring. The malt is made with barley peated to at least 50 ppm phenols, a figure that describes the barley rather than the finished whisky. The whisky is mostly ex-bourbon casks, with a smaller share of ex-Oloroso sherry casks added to give the smoke more depth. The nose combines herbs and grass with sweet smoke. On the palate, chocolate and oak join spicy, earthy smoke. The finish stays smoky, recalling smouldering burnt heather.
