It was distilled in 2013 and finished in a first fill Grand Marnier hogshead, a cask that previously held the French cognac-based orange liqueur. Ballechin is the heavily peated malt made at Edradour. Here its earthy smoke meets the citrus character of the liqueur cask, while the oak adds a dry spiciness. It is typically described as smoke set against candied orange, orange peel, dark fruit and spiced oak.
