First fill bourbon barrel
A 17 year old Ballechin distilled in 2004 and matured for its full term in a first fill bourbon barrel. It was bottled at a natural cask strength of 53.7%, with an outturn of 188 bottles. This is Whisky Sponge Edition No.36A and the first part of the Spongetopia Trilogy, three Sponge-themed dystopian futures presented as old school pulp sci-fi novels, with their opening paragraphs on the rear labels. This one is called The Sands of Sponge and is a peated Highland malt. The nose brings smoked herbal tea, barnyard peat, leather and lamp oil. The palate is compact, with bitumen, cold cream, limestone and chopped herbs, and the finish is long, tarry and medicinal.

About Glenbotal

The idea of Glenbotal came to us naturally: as whisky lovers, we were always on the lookout for new experiences in the whisky world. That’s why we created Glenbotal and became our very own first customers. We buy unique and hard to find spirits from ballots and private collections. Then, we share them with a small circle of friends and people who can appreciate a good dram.
