A 17 year old Ballechin, distilled in 2004 and bottled by Whisky Sponge as Edition No.36B. It matured in a refill fino sherry butt and was bottled at a natural cask strength of 55.5%, with an outturn of 623 bottles.
It is the second part of the Spongetopia Trilogy, three sponge-themed dystopian futures presented as old school pulp sci-fi novels. This one is titled The Triumph of Influencers. The fino butt has a strong influence on a peaty Highland malt.
The nose is sweet, nutty and slightly saline, with strawberry shrimps, air-dried meats and tanned leather. The palate brings sweet, tarry smoke, berry jams and Serrano ham, and the finish is long, meaty and salty with iodine.
