Balvenie 12 Year Old DoubleWood is a Speyside single malt, bottled at 40% ABV in a 70cl bottle. The expression was launched in 1993.
It is matured first in refill American oak casks, then finished for a further nine months in first-fill European oak Oloroso sherry butts.
The nose is nutty and spiced, with honeyed sultanas and grapes. The palate is sweet with good body, bringing vanilla, gentle spice, dried fruit, nuts, nutmeg and cinnamon, with a hint of peat in the background. The finish is spicy, slightly drying and still sweet.
