This is an 18-year-old single-cask Speyside single malt from The Balvenie in Dufftown, Scotland. It is Story No. 10 in The Balvenie Stories range, hand-selected by Malt Master Kelsey McKechnie, and comes in a 750ml bottle.
The whisky was matured first in traditional oak, then given a second maturation in French oak casks that previously held Pineau des Charentes, a sweet fortified wine from the Charentes region of France.
The nose is warm amber, delicate wine-cask sweetness and soft oak spice. The palate has spicy sweetness over honeyed malt, with the Pineau casks showing through. The finish is gently tannic and oaky, with lingering warmth.
