The Balvenie French Oak is a 16 year old Speyside single malt, finished in casks that previously held Pineau des Charentes, a fortified wine from the French Charentes vineyards. It is the first Balvenie finish to explore French oak. It is bottled at 95.2 proof in a 75cl bottle.
The finish was suggested to Malt Master David Stewart after a family trip to the region, where he remembered sipping Pineau as an aperitif.
The nose has light floral notes of lotus and geranium, with fresh meadow grass and apple skin. The palate brings tangy lemon rind and grapefruit, glazed fruits and root ginger. The finish is short and refreshing.
